Blue Mesa Grill in other cities:
OK, so...overall this place was okay. The best thing I had was the Ballpark Nachos and the frozen Classic Blue drink. The salsa they served was really good with a touch of spice, but the chips were a weird mix between regular salted tortilla chips and sweet potato ships, which were stale. I ordered the street tacos- two shrimp and one chicken. Now, Ive had plenty of street tacos in my life time and I have to say, I was not impressed with these at all. They were very dry and I was disappointed that there was fruit in the shrimp tacos, which I could not eat. Lastly, my silverware was so dirty! There was literally food on my silverware and when I asked my waiter for more, he came back new silverware in his bare hand, not wrapped in a napkin, and those silverware had a piece of spinach on it! Needless to say, I ate my side of rice with a tortilla chip. If I desperately want to come back here itll just be for the nachos and blue drink.
Me and my husband have been coming here for 5 years! The food is always great! Weve had birthdays celebrated here. We try to come on the weekends at evening hours so we can have our favorite server Bonifacio serve us. He is amazing and always gets our food out in time with the help from the cooks!
This place was a golden nugget of awesome. I had read some reviews and wanted to give it try.If you like Mexican food with a Texas flair, this is the place for you...From the delicious salsa on very unique, delicious sweet potato chips and tortilla chips, to the homemade fire smoked guacamole that is made at the TABLE...The meat is seasoned and cooked to perfection, and the relishes and garnishes tasted unbelievable.Top it off with a Blue Agave Margarita and its the perfect place to grab some amazing food.I only wish there were one in Kansas City, it may become my favorite restaurant.
We had a great experience. Cant give 5 stars due to the wait at the hostess stand. Our server (alex) was wonderful and help us make great menu choices. We got the queso flight, all three were great! The roasted salsa was the best. Beer was poured great and served very cold. The blue Margherita was flavored very well and not too strong. Avocado enchiladas has a great fresh taste paired with rice and black beans. The seafood sampler, cod was cooked perfectly with the proper seasonings, the shrimp was grilled with a very tasty sauce and the blue crab enchilada was a welcome experience as Iam not used to this meat in an enchilada. The prices were very fair as well. Be sure to ask for Alex, he will be sure to take care of you!!
Well... the sweet potato chips are suppose to be crunchy, yet they are chewy. Server assistant gave us crumbs. My son ordered the kids quesadilla, it was a joke! Half a tortilla folded and cut in half! I could barely see the cheese. His side was corn, it was a small portion in a big flat plate! Wth? Cmon whatever happened to the little cup? His dessert consisted of three slices of dry apples with strawberries and whip cream...He only ate the whip cream.... lady server forgot my margarita, and apologized only to forget it again. The enchiladas arrived at my table cold. And we waited for ever for my credit card. Our server only had 3 tables. I waited tables for a living for a long time at a very busy 4.5 stars hotel... She needs training and the cooks need to step up their game with presentation. Chef? Could you please expo the line, or help ensure food has some kind of presentation and arrives at a timely manner? Check your produce you guys! Never going there again, neither are my friends... Shame!Worst experience.
As my friends and I entered the restaurant we were very impressed with the layout and enjoyed how the venue looked. We waited about 10 minutes for our table which was pretty great considering it was a Saturday night. We were sat at out table and we were greeted by a server named April, she had a great smile very welcoming, we truly enjoyed her persence and were excitied to be served by her. We had our waters and drinks brought out but she did forget a drink which is understandable on a busy night. Once we order, April did help myself figure out what to order, while it was the one of the most expensive thing in the menu, I trusted it was worth the money. I would had wish we could have been checked on by the server more often but again it was a busy night, so understandable. It did take about 30 minutes to get 4/5 entrees and they thats how it was brought out and we waited for our friend to get their food. Then 10 - 20 minutes after we receieved the last plate. due to the amount of people in the kitchen therefore I suggest adding more kitchen staff on a busy night if that is a problem. Also I suggest waiting for all the food to be ready before the food runner takes the food out. Also our whole table had ran out of water and there was no one on the floor walking around except the host I believe asking if everything was alright. Eventually the serve did come back and refilled our waters and we were kind agitated with the service so we just decided to go ahead and ask for the check. We split between 2 different checks and while we were told the cheese would be free she ended up charging for it. Then in efforts of not being more difficult I just went ahead and payed the balanced. Now I work in the food industry therefore I completely understand the businest of a weekends. Also understand that I was not only table there and I understand the delay. I hope the comments I made help make this place better. I personally did enjoy my meal my other friends had their own problems, but minor. I may try this place again another time.
Picture this… It’s Easter Sunday. Everyone is dressed to the nines; you call ahead for a table and alert the family from the four corners of North Texas the grub is on at Blue Mesa. Only when you get there the hostess informs you that the waiter who answered the phone forgot that they don’t do “call ahead” on Easter and you are now looking at a 60-90 minute wait. Luckily, someone over the age of ten (possibly a manager) over hears the mixed up and squeezes a table for six up in just over thirty minutes (after all it was the waiter’s mistake). After a quick pass through the buffet, because several serving dishes were empty, you arrive back at your table with a newly delivered Poinsettia (cranberry and Champagne) waiting for you. Nice, but I ordered a mimosa! No worries- it’s free and I’ll get my mimosas next round. Half way through the brunch, I get that mimosa alright. A full one spilled right down my back! That’s right, our waitress dropped the tray (good thing there was only one on it) straight on me, ice and everything. It was in my hair, in my purse and later I realize on my cell phone (that is currently enjoying a nice rice spa treatment). As gracefully as possible, I did not make a scene or draw attention. I did not make the other guests uncomfortable in any way and for my trouble I received a full check with nothing comp-ed and a half sincere apology. If this experience doesn’t take the cake as the worst service anywhere, I don’t know what does! Word to the wise… Avoid Blue Mesa like the plague on holidays!!!!
Do your stomach a favor and do not come here for happy hour. Ive been to the one in Fort Worth before but this is horrid by comparison. If you choose to go here for happy hour youre going to think Im crazy at first. Drinks are cheap and there are free quesadillas. Its only as your start to leave the restaurant that your stomach clues you in that youve made a terrible mistake. Soon you will embrace the golden throne where you will push harder than your mom before the doctor realized she needed a c-section.
The WORST restaurant experience Ive had in a long time. We were seated at a wobbly table for two, served chips and ignored for a good 20-30 minutes. We asked for water, never got it. Our food came and it was stone cold. I have never been served food so cold in my entire life. It obviously has been sitting there a long time. The beer was not cold, it was warm, and I had a hard time determining the water from the margarita , because it was watered down and had almost no alcohol. It had sat so long the ice melted. Now, the next day we are sick with a stomach ache. We kept waiting for the bar rescue guy to walk through the door.
This was our second time visiting Blue Mesa Grill. Both instances were for date night. We loved loved loved the food and the service the first time visiting. This instance was not quite the same. The food was beyond amazing again, which is why Im giving it 3 stars instead of 1-2 stars. I love the chips and the salsas provided when you are greeted! We had the street tacos and the bbq pulled pork relleno and enchilada. Delicious! Props to the Chef! The downfall was the service and our server, Ramiro. From the very moment we sat down, he seemed as if he was trying to quickly get rid of us (maybe he was already cut and wanted to leave or maybe he is always this way). Either way, our dinner felt super rushed. Ramiro pushed for an appetizer again, and again, even after informing him that we did NOT want one. I had to interrupt him twice to state this. Im glad he suggested it, but dont push it after we stated that we dont want one. I ordered a margarita when we were greeted, that did not arrive until AFTER our food arrived - which was quite irritating. After we finished our food, Ramiro took our plates, the chips and salsas and placed the ticket down without asking if we needed anything else or whether we were finished with our food (and I was only barely half way through my only margarita). He came back to see if we had paid, but I refused to put my card in the holder until I was finished with my drink. Sadly, service was horrible and definitely keeps me questioning whether we will visit a 3rd time.
40 minutes late preparing my take out lunch order. I called in a lunch order for 9 people Tues evening for an 1130am Wed pickup. I arrived at 1140 and had to wait until 1210 for my food. It became apparent around noon that they hadnt even started my order until I showed up & asked for it.The food was excellent and I drank two glasses of the best iced tea Ive ever had poured by a friendly bartender while I waited.
Great brunch spread for the price; $2 upcharge for bloody Marys isnt bad neither. Only reason for 4 out of 5 is becasue beverage service was a little slow for the amount of people here--about half full at 1:45p on a Sunday. But, great service nonetheless. Ill be coming back for sure.
For $20, the Sunday all you can eat brunch was an okay choice. I have to give Blue Mesa props for the initiative to put some, but not all, of its nutritional info online.Theres a decent selection of food from enchiladas to an omelette station to taco fillings to salads and grilled fish. With the exception of the grilled fish, I found everything else to be a bit at or below average. A lot of the food is soaked in no trans-fat oil, but the oil doesnt seem to add to the dishes flavor. The dependency should be on the spices for the flavor, not the oil.I shouldnt forget to mention that the price includes unlimited mimosas, coffee, tea, and soft drinks. The coffee is made with a boatload of cinnamon (which I liked, but be forewarned).
You can order guacamole and they will make it right in front of you at your table, pretty neat. Also their queso is really good! Not a big fan of their sweet potato chips so I usually tell them to give chips without those in there. Their entree selection is also quite good. I recently got the goat cheese enchiladas (vegetarian) which I really liked!
Worst gluten free menu ever. Servers who dont even know if the chips they put on every table are gluten free or not. Get it together...this is very basic. Not one person could give a definitive answer regarding items listed on their gluten free menu nor did any of the 3 people I ask go get someone who could give an answer.
Do not go to Sunday brunchFood is dry, old and disgusting. Employees hanging out training and wierd. Couldnt finish coffee due to extra cinnamon they call good.It is as if they brought out all the left over fiod from the week and heated it the microwave. Not to mention it cost ~ 20$ a person = > 50 bucks for food and coffee.People told us this used to be a great spot, probably was 10 years ago, now dated gross, and lackluster. Will not be coming back, with all the great options in Dallas i dont expect this place to survive much longer.
Horrendous staff. Went on a Saturday night to get a drink with my wife. The place was half empty and the staff was sitting around the bar. We have a seat at the bar and 15 minutes later we are still sitting there ungreeted. The try and hail the bartender and he says he only has two hands to work with. And this was with an empty bar. The bartender then calls me rude and we definitely then decide to leave. I hope this place shuts down.
The food is just ok. The best thing is the sweet potato chips. The service was not terrible until it was reaching the end of the night when the server mentioned they were closing and we would need to leave asap. And continue to complain how long they just worked and that they need to work the next day. I just thought it was completely tactless.
Awful service and rude staff. Each time Ive been here there have been staff and ordering issues. The last time I opted to order something simple off the menu with no substitutions and I still got the wrong order. The waitress then insisted I had ordered the dish I received. I understand mistakes can happen but this location has consistently bad service.
This was one of my worst experiences. One bartender (for the entire resturant and bar) and started out with one waiter for a pre-scheduled party from a memorial service. 45 minutes + for food. At the bar for 20 mins and looked over not once but 3 times. Other patrons left. Half restaurant shut off no signs of renovations. Mentioned to the staff that trail of water was on the floor! HAZARD. They did not get it up for the 2 1/2 hours my family was there. Some still did not get their food. I will not be back. Its completely opposite the beltline location.
Service could have been better. Our waitress disappeared which prompted us to request things from other servers & even leave from the table to get things of our own. Sitting was not ideal as well. A prompt to separate dining tables actually fell over on my party & hit me in the head. I dont think I will visit again
Just had dinner @ Blue Mesa while in Dallas for a business trip. Started out with their chips and salsa which were so addicting. Then moved on to a tequila flite. 3 shot glasses filled 1/3 of the way up with Corazon blanco, reposado and anejo. It also came with 1 full shot glass of Sangrita as a chaser. This was a cool way to sample tequila but I dont recommend getting Corazon. My fiance got the mango habanero margarita. It was very unique and definitely worth a try. For dinner I had the seafood mixed grill (sample of red Chile salmon, blue crab enchilada and jumbo grilled shrimp with a side of ginger rice). All were good but my favorite was the enchilada. Also note that the shrimp was NOT jumbo. My fiance ordered the street taco platter. She chose the steak, coriander corn crusted chicken, and salmon tacos and the black bean adobe pie and the mixed greens grilled skewers as sides. Her favorite was the steak taco. Overall we liked the food we ordered. The ingredients were quite unique, portions were surprisingly filling, and overall price was reasonable.
Expensive price for cheap food and horrible service. We had over an hour wait, when there were so many table completely open. It’s Father’s Day I understand It could be crowded but it is not and we having to pour our own drinks and find what’s left of food on the buffet line. It was all cold and old tasting. This location is not kept up at.
I was enticed by the Hatch Green Chili advertising, unfortunately, there was a bare minimum of Hatch chili to be seen. The staff is not familiar with the chili and the menu leaves off the classics that should be there (Christmas plate and smothered burrito to name a couple). No green chili salsa and when I asked for a side of hatch chili to add to my bare minimum plate they first brought me tomatillo sauce and then brought me raw chopped chilis. Seriously? at least stock in some 505 if you cant make it. Last, why are Xoacoan menu items listed on the Hatch Festival menu?Need to up your game and train your staff, disapointing.
I LOVE MINDY, KAYLA, DEE AND JAKE FROM STATE FARM!!!!!!! THIS PLACE IS HORRIBLE!!!! THOSE EMPLOYEES ARE NO LONGER THERE! THE MANAGER IS RUDE! I WILL NEVER GO BACK! OH YEAH BEFORE I FORGET THE NEW PEOPLE DONT KNOW HOW TO MAKE A DRINK WITH OUT MAKING IT UP IN THEIR HEAD OR SEARCHING ON GOOGLE.

2016-12-28Outstanding food! If you are looking for some of the most flavorful Mexican food in Dallas, then look no further. The service was also very good. This is a great place to take a date.

2018-05-07Went during lunch, had the fish tacos which were excellent but for me the star was the ginger rice and our server. He was very attentive, knew his menu, returned to ask us if all was great and went on to tell us more about all the other specials and days that Blue Mesa has going on. I will definitely be returning. Oh, the chips are so good too! Food is worth the price.

2017-12-09Our company Christmas Party was here, and it was extremely awesome ! Their staff was very friendly and their hospitality was through the ROOF ! They provided some of the best service. I used to say Glorias Latin Cuisine in uptown had the best service , but Blue Mesa had won me over. In addition, their drinks a very good and strong !! This my new favorite restaurant

2018-06-18I went on a Saturday evening for dinner with friends about two weeks ago. I thought the staff was very friendly and helpful. The shrimp salad I ordered was rather disappointing, but everyone elses orders were fantastic.( My opinion on this may be worth two cents,), but you all need to add more shrimp to the shrimp salad, cut down the lettuce and add way more dressing ). There were two separate events (two birthday parties) as well, but all in all, we had a good time. The staff was quite inundated, but I feel they balanced it well.:)

2016-01-30This review is only for the happy hour.Good prices but the quality is definitely lacking. Free quesadillas are great but a bad margarita ruined it for me.The margaritas were strong but the ice had black flakes in it. This makes me wonder about the overall cleanliness of the operation.I had a shiner after the margarita and it had a funky after taste too. It was probably not a line issue and more of an old beer problem though.I would have rated this restaurant lower however the service was nice and attentive.

2018-04-23From their happy hour to brunch, Blue Mesa is so good! They have great food, drinks and prices. If you sit at the bar or at a table theyll take good care of you. Get the blue margarita for sure! Special shout out to David and Doug for always being so cool.

2016-05-27I was here for lunch, and has a phanomal experience. Not only was I greeted, and seated right away, the staff was very friendly, and really helpful! The my food was excellent, and prepared perfectly. There was also a gentleman by the name of Derrick, who was extremely delightful, and was on top of everything. He made me feel very welcome, and appreciated. All in all, my time there was great! I will be going again, and telling everyone I know to go as well!
