0 stars! Their website clearly states they are pet friendly and the manager supposedly in charge Carolina Garcia turned some around after driving all the way from Washington State! Rudest lady I can imagine and was zero percent helpful. Place blows! Go somewhere else, there are better cleaner hotels on the Valley.
Booked 2 nights to visit family and we loved it. The staff are very nice, cheerful, and help you get your keys fast. The rooms are amazing, modern, and very spacious. We didn’t get to play mini golf or go to the bar but the complimentary breakfast is really good. Would definitely recommend for the good price and great location.
Location is good access to the freeway. Hard to see where to turn in because it is behind an empty restaurant building. Rooms are very nice. 5th floor rooms are noisy at night. You can hear every creak and noise from the roof and water pipes, but not too bad. Bedroom lamps dont work. Water pressure could be much better in the shower. Just had to take longer shower than usual to rinse off. 😊 Employees are nice, friendly and helpful. Great place to stay and will definitely come back here when Im in town.
This was quite a eye opening experience staying here. Definitely gave me the feeling of a resort. The entire layout of this hotel is perfect. From the fresh baked cookies in the lobby to the putt putt course outside. They have a great variety of rooms, that work perfectly for families. Its almost like a hidden gem. A little more on the expensive side but you really do get what you pay for here and more
This hotel is fantastic! It has an outdoor pool, with a kiddie area and a hot tub. They have several outdoor BBQ grills and a simple, on-site, miniature golf course. Its great for the kids, but Im guessing adults wont really spend too much time with it. There is a nice continental breakfast, and a bar off the lobby. On-site laundry facilities and a gym. They have free cookies daily in the lobby, as well as a small store for essentials. The rooms are well furnished with a small kitchen and dining table, couch, desk, etc. The only complaint in our room was the roomy standing shower, as my wife enjoys soaking in a bath tub. It was nice to see the toilet shower separate from the sink and closet area, with a locked door between the two and an awesome barn door to close off the closet/sink area from the bedroom. Best of all, the hotel is in a great location, with ample free parking, close to several restaurants and the building itself lights up at night so its easily visible from nearby streets. I loved staying there and would definitely recommend this location and hotel to anyone staying in the McAllen, TX area.
The staff is amazing. The hotel is located near many stores and local businesses and even gave me a discount coupon for 10% off to the places within walking distance (cant guarantee that this will happen for everyone though, of course). Very well maintained facilities. The hotel is kept very cool, which in a place like McAllen means a lot. Theres a pool, gym, a bar (with very generous happy hours), complimentary breakfast and dinners, an outside hangout area adjacent to the bar with furniture, and, to top it all off, theres a freaking mini golf course. I know, I was caught off guard by it too. All said, this is an excellent hotel and Id highly recommend staying here if you have the opportunity.
Great clean place, excellent staff. Free complimentary breakfast and drinks in the evening. The shortage of towels in the room was a minor issue easily resolved. As a new location would expect some USB connections on some appliances like other similar chains of hotels.Coffee is great but weak, have to double the packages to make it stronger. Shortage of condiments to sweeten and stir. The pool and miniature golf course makes it up along with the friendly staff. Great food around that give a discount when you show the hotel room key.
We stayed here 2 years ago and was greeted by a wonderful person named Esmer. She is the main reason for us staying in this hotel again. When we checked in this time we were ecstatic to learn she was not only here but she is the manager up front. I was also surprised when she remembered us. We have been getting excellent service. We enjoy the amenities this hotel offers. It is in a great location as well. When we had an issue with our room, they sent someone right up to fix it. I with announce that we will stay her again next year.
This hotel is amazing. I stay in a lot of hotels for business travel and this one is such a departure from the normal chain hotels. Lobby and rooms are light and modern and rooms are VERY nice and spacious. The hotel staff and owner were so wonderful and friendly. They have a nice pool with cabanas and BBQ pits and a miniature golf course! Dinner was great (and included with stay) along with breakfast. I highly highly recommend this place. Im already planning my next business trip just to stay here again.
If the toilets flushed Id probably still be staying there... Not sure how you can have an extended stay hotel where the WiFi has more holes than swiss cheese and the toilet doesnt flush the first three time you hit the lever and expect someone to stay there for longer than a week.
*Housekeeping does not clean rooms thoroughly or consistently (Sweep, mop, clean toilets, clean showers).*Housekeeping does not change sheets regularly or consistently (I had to ask for sheets to be changed all the time during my long term stay).*Housekeeping does not change towels, face towels or hand towels consistently or on a daily basis. I had to ask the front desk almost 3-4 times a week for these items to be sent to my room.*Housekeeping will not fix your bed daily (even if you are present in the room and off the bed)!*Multiple reports of bedbug issues from long-term residents on the 3rd an 4th floor (myself included). Nothing worst than waking up the next day with clusters of bite marks all over your body after a hard day of work or recreational activities.*I am highly disappointed and dissatisfied with the unprofessionalism and nonchalant service that was and is still being provided during my stay at the Hawthorn Suites by Wyndham McAllen.
Really awesome, modern hotel! And I mean modern!! Gleaming floors and walls, state of the art technology for energy saving in the rooms, beautiful glass sculptures everywhere, elegant!! The free breakfast and dinner were tasty (the dinners definitely more so than the breakfasts, powdered eggs ewww), the happy hour phenomenal! Cecelia makes the best margaritas Ive ever had. The rooms are cavernous and comfy, the fitness room huge by most hotel standards, the pool sparkling and clean, the staff very friendly. The only issue I had was my room wasnt cleaned one day, and the front office girl said I must have had the sign out saying do not disturb when I know for a fact that was not the case, but really the only hiccup I experienced. Oh, and I forgot to mention FREE WASHERS AND DRYERS!!! So great!! I will definitely stay here every time I travel to McAllen!!!
Excellent room, friendly staff, and comfortable beds. I really enjoyed the nice pool area and mini golf on the side. Everything looked and felt new. If I had to pick something to complain about it would be the hard, uncomfortable sofa in the room. They chose form over function with the furniture.
Hotel was fairly new. Had a good breakfast selection. I stayed in the junior suite and it was an amazing room. It was very spacious and well designed. The hotel is conveniently located close to many good restaurants and a theater. The price is not to high and I will definitely stay there again.
Our family makes two trips to the Rio Grande Valley yearly and this without question is the best hotel in or near McAllen, period! The rooms are modern and clean, service from staff is impeccable, food served at dinner events and breakfast buffet is always good and areas are spotless. I want to give special kudos to the girls at front desk especially ESMERALDA. I believe some of these are new hires and definitely impress, some of the best customer service Ive ever experienced at any hotels nationwide. Great job everyone there, we will be back!
This place is really nice. Its also very expensive (by my standards). I wish their dinner hours werent 5-7 PM because I usually got back to the hotel about 7:30 or 8 so I missed it every night but one. Also, I forgot my razor and they charge you to give you a disposable one. Ive stayed at $50 hotels that will happily give you a free disposable razor if you forget.
The place looks new. It has a good balance in price/accommodities. The breakfast is good. The rooms are clean and neat with a good clean bathroom. I think that the only thing that could be better is the internet, its a hit or miss, sometimes it works okay and sometimes is kind of useless, however I understand that it is hotel Internet and its free.
Home away from home! The hotel in and of itself is a quality hotel. The main difference maker is the people! From Esmer at the front desk, to Tony driving the hotel shuttle, to all of the housekeeping staff that are constantly on top of things here, and all the way up to the general manager, I just feel at home. I would recommend this place to anyone spending time down here in the RGV. Great people make a great hotel!
My coworker and I just finished a rousing game of the minature golf course at the hotel and we are now going to walk to one of many restaurants in the near vincity. The rooms are only about a year old and very clean. The staff is personable and friendly. We agreed that we will stay here again the next time we are in McAllen.
Was impressed by front desk girl that checked me in, very friendly and polite.Hotel is spotless. When I arrive to Harlingen airport and was trying to rent a car I found out there was no rental car available.Courtesy Van from Hawthorne Hotel took me back and forth to my work training i had and that made my travel very smooth.Thank you to all staff,Excellent
Very fancy inside. The staff is super down to earth and friendly. Breakfast is so so, but happy hour makes it nice. They have Chihuly or Chihuly inspired art all over the lobby and bar. Very fancy. The rooms are also comfortable enough that its ok if you have to spend some serious time here.
Everything about the room was great! One of the lamps (room 101) was missing a knob to turn it on, but everything was great. Amazing breakfast! I was sooo surprised to see Japanese breakfast items! Like a taste of home! On a roadtrip, so were staying in a different hotel tonight, and McAllens Hawthorn has way fluffier towels than the Hilton were currently in!
Great place to stay, Wonderful experience all the way around, from ladies at the front desk, to the porters (who were very kind and shuttled me where I needed to go, within 5mile radius). I would highly recommend Hawthorn Suites Mission/McAllen. Great job guys!!!! Clean and very welcoming Hotel
As mentioned in other reviews for this place, nice to have both lunch and dinner included.HOWEVER, the big turnoff for me at this place was that the air conditioner was not working. It was really hot when I got in the room. There seemed to be 2 thermostats: 1 for the living room and 1 for the bedroom. Upon adjusting the thermostat to cool mode, high fan, and reducing the temp, it took over 5 hours for the living room to get 2 degrees colder. The bedroom continued to be hot. Despite thermostat adjustments.I got frustrated enough in the middle of the night to just sleep on the couch in the living room because of how hot it continued to be in the bedroom.Ffs this isnt a motel 6. Fix air conditioner
THIS HOTEL WAS NOTHING SHORT FROM A SMALL ART GALLERY! Very unique in that aspect. Every area of the hotel had art to be enjoyed. From the lobby, dinning area, bar, and all the way to your room. Fantastic and enjoyable! The customer service here is phenomenal and over the top! Truly setting the bar a notch higher for hotel hospitality. You have a large lounging area that can includes the lobby if you choose to, a full bar with long happy hours, bartenders that just hit the mark with every cocktail, outside lounging right out the backside of the bar with a 19 hole putting greens, comped dinner and hot breakfast, heated pool, gas/charcoal grills with outside sinks with lounging sofas and full tables with built in icechests, full kitchen, multiroom suites, and a 24 hour driving service thatll happily take you where ever you need to go and come back from.Absolutely Grade A service! With service such as this... we will be staying here again next time we stay in McAllen.
The food here is amazing the lady in the morning is an awesome cook all her food is always well prepared and presentable my coworkers at the office love staying there because of her food we know her name it is Norma de la Garza the eggs are always so tasty her food is always looking very nice please let her be noticed not only us but we have stayed numerous of times and other regulars that stay there always complimenting her she is a great worker the pans are always full never emptied we hope she gets recognized thank you Norma for your tremendous food and customer service,
Our Austin high school basketball teams stayed overnight at Hawthorn Suites in McAllen. The double suites were a great solution (cost effective) to keep the teams together and create bonding. The hotel was beautiful, breakfast was delicious and the putt-putt course kept the team happily occupied as they waited for their game. Great stay!!
Just wanted to send a special thank you to the staff at the Hawthorne! They made the best out of a bad situation and were able to accommodate my team amidst all of the flooding challenges. We literally saw several rescues outside the hotel. Thank you to Esmer Salinas and her team.
Down from North Carolina straight to hawthorn to rest from a long drive, Zereck and the rest of front desk really helpful and willing to help , rooms are clean , water pressure in shower is fair , this is a really nice stay for $$ , as a family man I am comfortable bring my family and recommending family here .....thank you for making it an easy stay
Stayed at the hawthron suites this past week and the dish this liitle lady ( norma) make i beilieve she called it pozole was out of this world also some of the other dishes she served like the quiche and the pizza where also so yummy my children ususally do not eat vegetables but the ate everything she was putting out all week thank u and 2 thumbs up for Mrs Norma D.
ROOMS ARE VERY NICE. KINDA LIKE A ONE BEDROOM APT. WITH A KITCHEN. MY ONLY PROBLEM WAS AT THE POOL AREA. SOME GUYS WERE DRINKING BEER WITH GLASS BOTTLES AND HAD LIKE 20 EMPTY GLASS BOTTLES IN A LAUNDRY CART AND A LOT OF EMPTY CANS EVERY WHERE. TOLD FRONT DESK ABOUT IT. ALL THEY DID WAS BROUGHT THEM SOME RED SOLO CUPS. DIDNT TELL THEM TO THROW AWAY THERE TRASH. LOOKED VERY GHETTO. WHAT IF A BOTTLE BROKE AND GLASS WOULD GO INSIDE THE POOL? THATS MY ONLY COMPLAIN. HOTEL EVEN HAS A MINIATURE GOLF COURSE. JUST HOPE THAT MANAGEMENT DOES A BETTER JOB TO CONFRONT PEOPLE ABOUT THERE TRASH IN THE POOL AREA.

2022-03-14This hotel is central to the highway and where i needed to go. There are 3+ restaurants within walking distance, plenty of parking. I wish it wasnt windy otherwise I wouldve used the pool which is a good size. There is even mini-golf on the side of the building. When I went, there were alot of National Guard folks staying in the hotel. My room was suite with a king bed. I loved the blackout curtains. I loved the wooden flooring and tile flooring in the bathroom (i feel like carpet at hotels look and feel kind of dirty). There was a mini kitchen with full size fridge, an area for me to eat and work. Really enjoyed my room and got good nights rest.I needed a receipt for check =out and forgot but i called they answered right away and got me what i needed asap. I really appreciated that!Pros: speedy check in, great staff, free breakfast and dinner, free beer. Great gym with enough equipment to get a good workout in. Full bar, gorgeous lobby. Housekeeping doesnt come in, unless you ask. Good, because its more sustainable.Cons: you could hear all conversations in the hallway but luckily it was quiet at 10PM, dinner wasnt that healthy

2021-09-20Easy check-in, everything was explained well regarding the electricity. The room was very spacious and clean. Its very close to a lot of restaurants and has entertainment both at the location (mini-golf, pool) and around it (trampoline park, chuck e cheese, movie theater).

2021-04-15This was truly the best hotel stay we have ever had! The staff was incredibly helpful, kind, and attentive. When we arrived, we were lucky enough to be upgraded to the Two Bedroom Suite, which was utterly stunning! The pool area and the minigolf were a plus, we loved it so much that we will be coming back.

2020-02-26Very clean, contemporary, place, friendly, helpful staff, free draft beer at happy hour. Dinner is fair but nothing to get excited about. The rooms are spacious and well thought out. However, there is no carpet, so you may want to wear socks. There is not enough power outlets and the bedroom lighting is poor. The window shades block a considerable amount of light, so sleeping late is very easy. There is poor water pressure, toilet takes 3-4 flushes and the shower is fairly week. The chest of drawers are very small and there is not much closer space. But, there is a full size refrigerator, adequate sink and a two burner stove. Overall, its a very nice place for a short/ extended stay.

2020-07-23The hotel was great, we got a clean king bed with our studio room. The room was a little cold during our stay according to my husband. I didnt feel it until I had to potty, the toilet seat was cold, but other than that, the temperature was perfect for me. I cleaned the surfaces with some disinfectant spray. I am pregnant and have 2 chronic conditions so a little extra cleaning goes a long way for me. We had Dinner and breakfast at the hotel and that was really good. This hotel has a really good cook and front desk staff. I will come back here again.

2018-07-29My room is always clean, I am staying for a prolonged time. The gym is well furnished and always available. The breakfast, and weekday dinner, are welcomed benefits. There are plenty of amenities within walking distance. The staff is warm and welcoming. If they could remember to replace the towels they remove from my room each day, I would give 5 stars.
