Positive: The staff member I checked in with was very nice. His name had todo with a holiday. The rest of the front desk staff seemed like they didnt want to be there. Negative: The room smelled like dog pee. The bathroom was dirty. The iron didnt work and when it did work it left rust marks everywhere. When we called the front desk the 1st time no one answered 2nd time we were on hold for 3 minutes and then someone replied.
Pros:quiet rooms, cool location, stylish lobby.Cons: staff had no sense of urgency, only cable on tv (no smart features).DO valet.DONT park in the parking garage around the corner unless you want to be smacked in the face with a hot wave of pee.Had an issue that didn’t get resolved until I had to ask about it again with a different person. The manager Whitney was pretty awesome and helpful— the other guys not so much.
This is a beautiful downtown hotel is just a few blocks from Minute Made Park, and Discovery Green. As a long time Houstonian coming back it was really cool to stay in the old Houston Post building. I loved the history behind this building. They are very dog friendly, and charged no fees for our dog to stay with us. They even had a treat (milk bone) for our pup upon check in.I enjoyed watching the Astros game at the bar, and even played a couple of games of pool with my husband. The only thing I didnt love was the size of the pool. It was a little small, and when everyone came to swim in the evening ot was crowded. Otherwise it is a nice pool with beautiful views of downtown Houston.
I was traveling with my son, his wife, and their 6 week old baby. When we arrived a very friendly woman greeted us from valet that took our luggage and car. When checking in, a very nice gentleman at the front desk found a nice size king room to upgrade us to with our titanium elite status that had a kitchen and was more than large enough to accommodate a twin bed for me and a pack and play and stroller for my grandson. The room had 3 large windows with high quality darkening drapes. The room overlooked lovely downtown buildings - one of which had a park with beautiful green trees on top the building. A very nice woman named Bina (I believe) couldnt have been nicer as she brought us the twin bed, extra towels, extra pillows and a comforter for the twin bed. With a sleeping baby, we ordered and picked up dinner on the 2nd floor to eat in the room which was very good with fast service. Breakfast was also very good that we enjoyed in the actual restaurant as it was huge and the tables were far enough apart for social distancing. There is a beautiful church across the street with a lovely park/ courtyard that I took the baby to while his parents were able to walk to the game. The historic building the hotel was in with its updated interior is very pleasant and every staff member we encountered really made us feel at home. We had a most comfortable and enjoyable stay. I highly recommend this hotel for your stay in Houston!
Nice place to stay with friendly staff willing to assist. Indoor gym with plenty of exercise equipment. A spectacular view from the outdoor lounge. Swimming pool and hot tub in lounge area. A restaurant within the hotel with excellent food and drinks.Right in downtown near plenty of restaurants. The bed was med firm and bedding was adequate to stay comfortable. A nice desk with tempered glass overlay to perform work or writing. Decent wifi to perform business on. Very large oval tub to soak in after a long day. K cup coffee maker in room to wake yourself up.Nice lounge area in lobby to relax while you wait for other guests.Would recommend and stay again.
First the good. The check in was a breeze and the attendant was friendly and courteous. My room decor was updated, clean and quite large. Hallways were too nicely updated and spacious. The bed was comfortable and many wall plugs and USB ports for charging everything conveniently. Chairs are also comfy and wifi strong. now the not so good. the windows were old and not possible to even crack open. their installation or repairs must have been made in extreme hurry. they looked bad and quite out of place. the room temperature was controllable easily, but a bit humid. the gym wasnt appealing and smelly. the breakfast options were limited and service and food were not what they should have been.I have to say the elevators both in the morning and evening were as slow as Ive ever seen anywhere. with 3 of them, I have to assume there is a software or calibration issue. a spare plastic bag left in the room would have saved me a trip down to the lobby.given the nightly rate, its quite acceptable and although not a place to look forward to coming back to, Ill consider it for the right price.
This hotel appeared just okay for a 4 star boutique hotel. It’s clean but aren’t all the hotels, I mean mostly. Nothing above and beyond. I always opt for a room with kitchenette as I travel with my toddler. I booked a room with a kitchen here too. had to request them to provide me pots and pans and utensils and dishes, basically every single thing that I needed in the kitchen. I was given a box full of pots and pans and dishes and when I opened the box everything was dirty to the extent that there was still oil and gravy in the pans and on the spoons. Someone picked them from a sink and put them in the box, without washing, it seemed! It was literally the grossest thing I had seen a while. This definitely overshadowed my entire stay. So if you are going to use the kitchen, don’t forget to bring your own everything!
We brought our dog with us since the dog stays free at this hotel which was very nice. The room we stayed in was a bit dated and smelled funky. We pre-requested some of the extra amenities to be ready, but none of them were there. Only 1 wash cloth was provided which was pretty disappointing. We got charged an unknown restaurant bill, which was super odd and uncomfortable. When we checked out, we informed this incident and the front desk staff told us they would investigate. I hope they will remove it from our bill completely as we didnt go to their restaurant. The location of this hotel is really nice though. We were Bonvoy Gold but it probably wont mean much. Overall, ok hotel.
Had a wonderful stay at the Magnolia Hotel while I was waiting out some renovations at my house. Everyone from the valet to reception was very welcoming and friendly. Best of all, the hotel is dog friendly (no fees either!). Please note, however, that if you need a desk in your room, its best to call in advance to request one because not all of the rooms have desks despite the pictures online. WiFi worked great for me in the lobby and in the hotel room though. Thanks for a great experience, Magnolia!
The Magnolia Hotel in Houston was a wonderful stay. My wife and I were married in Houston in March 2021 and the hotel bent over backwards to accommodate us and our guests. Andy Ellis made sure all our guests were booked and upgraded my fiancee and my room. The staff was extremely helpful and the rooms were everything we wanted and more. I highly recommend booking with them based on the staffs attentiveness, the history of the hotel, and the location in downtown Houston.
Excellent hotel in a fantastic location near lots of restaurants. The staff was phenomenal, and a special thanks to Kennedy at the front desk. He answered my call after my departure and quickly confirmed that I had indeed left some items in my room and had them bagged up and ready for me to collect as I rushed back to get them. I’m thrilled I chose this hotel and I will certainly return next time I’m in Houston. Thank you !
I drove 3 hours to stay in a 4-5 star hotel, had a great time with my friends, but the bar or tv doesn’t play all sports, excessive cleaning fee is 270 dollars make sure you don’t get screwed “majority was cleaned”, hot tub and pool was closed and get this I paid 420 for one night and one day later after I paid for the night, they dropped the price down to 197. It’s ridiculous, I will not go back to Houston, and if anyone recommends this company I’d say stay away
Wouldn’t stay here for business under any circumstance. Paid for hi speed wifi and have only had consistent internet access for two to three minutes at time. Was told “we don’t have an IT department” when I called to see if anybody could help. Generally expect the wifi to work a Motel 8, so this was a letdown.
For such a nice hotel downtown, I am so disappointed! The elevators didnt work, good luck with the stairs from 20th floor. 1 of 3 elevators where powered up and it only took you up and would not stop to take you back down. The staff acted suprised when told of the issue...that had been going on for the entire a week. That should have been communicated at checking. The hot water is a joke. The toilet didnt want to flush half the time due to water pressure issues. To top it all off when the front desk was notified off all of the issues, they didnt even bother to appologize for the issues or offer to compensate us for all of the issues. The only saving grace was the valet service was so nice and the bar staff was on point. Worst Marriott property Ive stayed at to date. Its sad because the location is great and the public areas look great buy the maintenance and service is terrible.
It was lovely staying here for a birthday staycation. The room was very clean and staff was very nice. Valet was not great. We waited almost an hour for our vehicle on a Saturday night and they lost another visitor’s key! The restaurant was very slow and we didn’t have a waiter in the beginning, we traveled to the bar to order and pay, while others received service so that was challenging. However, bar staff was nice and patient, and valet service was slightly better the next morning. Overall great stay, lovely room, nice view, and good cleanliness. Improving valet and restaurant service would make all the difference.
The location is perfect for a quick family get away. It is steps from the train for a ride to the Museum District for the Zoo and the Butterflies. Its within walking distance to the baseball and the soccer stadium. The Discovery Green Park is a few minutes walk away, too. Its a great City park with tons of grass to run on, playgrounds to climb on, etc. and bring a swimsuit for the water jets and enjoy some ice cream after. The rooftop pool is a great place to relax with the little ones after a long day at the zoo or park. Its perfect for those beginning swimmers as its 3FT the entire length. Pool table on the 2nd floor is a great distractions if you want to get out of the room for a bit, too. This was my kids first Big City experience and the Magnolia was the perfect place for it.
This hotel is NOT up to par of most “Marriott” Hotels.. property was not kept up, not the cleanest place.. upon arrival we went to see the pool/hot tub area on the roof.. within 3 feet of the hot tub was a dead Seagull which appeared to be torn up by a bobcat.. body parts, feathers everywhere.. the next day the hot tub was out of service for the duration of our stay. …. Customer service was hit and miss… some were friendly, polite, professional.. others tried to avoid eye contact, ignored customers, or were more concerned with their personal cell phones. I imagine many didn’t really like their job. On the plus side, this was the least expensive Marriott property in downtown Houston.
Positive: Great location! Nice hotel design and amenities. Negative: I had trouble checking in because my credit card had issues. I prepaid for the hotel room, but the staff member was concerned about the $100 deposit for incidentals. I offered to pay the deposit in cash. I understand the security issue involved.
Overpriced for amenities. Old TV. No vending machines I could find. No staff at front desk around 2am. Nice elevators. Comfy bed. Staff present were nice.Cant find an address on paper anywhere in the room, which discouraged me from ordering delivery. One last weird thing: our phones clocks kept falling back 2 hours while here. Didnt affect rating, probably a coincidence.
I stayed for almost a week and had a wonderful experience. I dont usually write reviews but the concierge staff was excellent, especially Norton who searched everywhere to help me get quarters for laundry and who was kind and responsive to all my questions. My room was nice and clean and I enjoyed my stay. Thank you!
Great hotel with a small very private rooftop pool. Could have been better if there were a pool bar and music. But we had a fun time in the hot tub. Find a different hotel if youre looking for the pool scene. But this was a great hotel for private fun time at the pool.
The hotel was only 3 minutes from the wedding reception we were there to attend - hotel could use a little updating but was super clean and had a huge tub! Front desk people were very nice and the valet people hustled to get our car and get our luggage for us. Nice little coffee shop right outside the front doors of the hotel which had a good cup of coffee and fresh bagels!
The Magnolia hotel, is the hotel, is one of our favorite places to stay in downtown Houston. The building itself is just wonderful, The rooms are wonderful, beds are soft, Your choice of pillows, Bathrooms are well equipped. The staff in every area of the hotel from the front counter to the bar to the breakfast the pool its all wonderful. Is the best guys angels are at The Valley standThese young people, Get your car, give you advice on best ways to get to various places, etc. Southern charm in a great Southern City, Houston.Have a great time, Yall!
Great place to stay if you are a tourist. You have plenty of restaurants, bars, clubs, stores around. You also have all tramways just 2 min on foot. The staff is always really nice. The rooms are pretty standard for a hotel but they come really good packed with everything you would need, like coffee, AC, lots of personal cleaning products, etc.
This was a wedding block of 20 rooms.*The rate was very good, but also contracted when the city was closed from Covid & NO activity was happening at the hotel. Fortunately for all, Houston was wide open from restrictions at the time of our stay.*We did not use the resturant but visited the bar area, staff was rude & unfriendly ( pregnant girl) Friday Aug 6*There were many meetings & emails with Andy stating we needed specific room location because of children/nanny situation… Upon check in, this room was many floors away. When I expressed my concern, it was changed, but not without an attitude from Gilbert. He was great the first time we toured the hotel in December.*Many guest had much difficulty in getting reservation on phone, 1-800 was horrible, up to 45 min wait. Local number had no answer much of the time. I personally called and got no answer.Ck in was 4pm*I asked for early ck in as our Rehearsal was at 5:30, & was told by Andy he would check into it.Granted, he did allow the “bridal family” ck in at 1 pm, but on arrival many many Astros fan were checking in early as well.?????My guest were rushing to get to room & venue on time but Astros fans were there! I have had my room block since December.Andy tried to accommodate, but I got very tired of hearing Covid excuses. Houston was wide open at this point for weeks before.*Valet was exceptional.I feel like it was a very Unfriendly hotel.I will possibly suggest the Lancaster down the street.
Great historic, but renovated, property with very comfortable rooms. Great, large bathtubs! Ask for a room with a view! Valet parking is quite expensive and there’s no nearby free parking except for overnight on the street. There are some lots nearby for about $3-$4 per day if you don’t mind a several block walk. Service is very attentive and they respond to requests very quickly.
This is a great hotel with a great staff but is showing some wear and tear. The good: Location is ideal for many downtown activities. Staff was always helpful. Room was large and quiet. A/C worked great. Less than good: My room’s main lamp by the bed had a control knob that was loose and made it hard to turn on and off. The soap dispenser in my room fell apart with my first attempt to use it. The Kitchenette was dated and sub par for a hotel of this standing. Food and beverage was extremely limited. I’ve stayed at this hotel many times and enjoyed it. The pandemic has been hard on many hotels and this one just needs a bit of TLC at the moment.
Everything was excellent. Our room was lovely and particularly large With three huge windows. My only complaint was there was no information telling me where I could get ice on my floor. I had to call downstairs to find out and unfortunately it was located two floors up. There was no welcome information in the room to give me any time schedule for breakfast, the pool etc. And, because of Covid there was no happy hour. I hope that comes back soon.
I had a great stay at this hotel! The staff was amazing and it was clean, for the most part. However the remote was gritty and there were two stains on the comforter. The satellite signal on the tv was also awful so anything I wanted to watch was hard to. I also wish they at least had water BUT everything else about my stay was great and easy. I’ll probably stay here again if/when I return
We really enjoyed the historical boutique feel of this hotel, it was cozy and clean and the rooms were very spacious. The staff was very friendly, the breakfast buffet was good, and the view from the rooftop pool was awesome. The cafe out front of the hotel was convenient for late night gelato. We didnt use the valet, but parked in the garage diagonal from the hotel which saved us money. Would definitely stay here again!
I really enjoyed my stay in Houston. Nice staff and great location in downtown Houston. A lot to do that is within walking distance of the hotel. Was highly disappointed by the rooftop pool though. It is extremely small and could not fit everyone in our party. Other than that, it was awesome!
Best hotel for downtown fun has it all it style, comfort and location!Restaurants, bars, entertainment the hotel is surrounded by anything you would want. Our girls trip was a success due to being affordable and the accessibility to all downtown attractions. Definitely my choice for downtown Houston.
My fiancée and I had a fantastic time. The staff were courteous and helpful and the hotel was beautiful. The rooms were clean and spacious. The check in process was quick and painless. The only inconvenience was the elevators. There were only 3 small ones (6-8 people with no bags) to service 23 floors and wedding guests.
We traveled to Houston to celebrate my birthday. My husband chose this hotel because of the roof top pool. Little did we know that we could see the Astros stadium from the roof. When the team won the game, they burst fireworks which made it seem like it was in honor of.my special day.
I get the whole historic vibe to this property. The service from the valet and the front desk was excellent. But there were several small things that I couldn’t look past. Not having a Netflix option on the tv was minor but the lack of updates/upgrades in the room was major. It’s dark and old inside the rooms. The back bar wall should be organized, it was a Sunday but the bar tender was watching some random show and not football. The bed was extremely uncomfortable.Based on this experience I do not want to stay at another Magnolia property!
Nice hotel. Very friendly and knowledgeable staff. Super dog friendly, my pup felt welcomed :) The lobby area is beautiful. I love that they kept some items of historic significance. Comfortable room with great bath amenities. Would stay here again, especially if my pup is coming along!
Needs some updates to the rooms. Booked a city view but most of it was blocked. They won’t service your room during the day for multiple night stays. At checkout the front desk was asked to call a cab but they didn’t until we were downstairs 15 min later. Waited another 15 min and are late to the airport. Overall not bad but you could easily find a better spot to stay.
Stayed for 6 nights and was surprised that there was no housekeeping services being offered whatsoever. Apparently due to Covid. No way to even request a refresher after 3 nights. Seems odd to mention Covid when less than 5% of all guests I have encountered on property wore masks in public spaces. No restaurants or bars except for the weekend - at which point a breakfast could have been offered to compensate for this inconvenience. Again nothing. The property feels both dated and renovated depending on which room you are standing. The tiny pool was uninviting so no reason to bother. Though the staff was mostly nice I am unlikely to return
Awful service and poor attention to details. No room service menu (although they advertise room service on their website). I called and was told “there’s a QR code at the front desk, but we’ll email you the menu”. They also informed me that it’s not actual room service, that you had to go down and get the food yourself. The phone in the room has no button for the front desk, restaurant, or valet. The remote had no “guide” button OR a paper TV guide by the TV so we just had to flip channels to find something to watch. The shampoo and soap bottles were locked on the shower wall so you couldn’t remove them (for people that want to take a bath you have to stand to get soap). There was also rust coming out of the shampoo bottle. Valet took 40 minutes to get our vehicle. This was supposed to be a boutique hotel. It felt like a cheap motel with big rooms. I strongly recommend going elsewhere. They did try to make it up to us by comping valet and the food, but it’s not enough for us to come back.
Well we pretty much were left to fend for ourselves. There was no food /drink/dining or breakfast offered. Due to covid which was understandable. However the cleanliness of the hotel was less than. We were already on high alert due to traveling in the pandemic. However like all hotels they state they are taking extra precautions. referring to cleanliness etc. I check for cleanliness as well as bed bugs as soon as I get to any hotel just from hearing the horror stories. Well there was no bed bugs but the cleanliness of the room was less than. The lobby/common areas were very clean. However It was obvious to me that house keeping shim shamed the room. The surfaces were not wiped down much less disinfected. The surfaces counter etc. were dusty. Not to mention the microwave hadnt been cleaned either. There was bits and pieces of food inside. I wiped everything down with Lysol as soon as we got there.@ one point I asked for towels @ the front desk on my way out. I was told they would send some up to the room. When I came back I had to call down and ask again. As I stated we were there on slow days there was no one really there. The staff wasnt busy. Then theres the valet service which is $36 a day. There was a 1 man crew sun/mon. We had to wait as there was no one @ the booth half the time. Tuesday there was 2 man crew but one was gone and the other playing on his phone sitting in the lobby entrance while we were waiting @ the booth to get out car. Then we tried to call the # on the ticked that stated you could call in advance. We tried different day/times..no answer. By the was theres a parking garage directly across the street that charges $10/$15 a day. You can get your own car. I think ill chose another hotel next time. I would expect hotels as well as any other businesses to be a little better as they are hurting during the pandemic. They should put in a little more effort to attract business/make people more comfortable with hotel stays/travel.
Magnolia was better than pictured. The staff was attentive and polite. I had a smooth checkin and checkout. The lobby was clean and followed covid19 protocols. The room was very clean and smelled wonderful!! I enjoyed my 24 hour stay and will definitely stay again when in the area.
Hotel was very nice aesthetically. Bed and pillows were nice and comfortable. The room temperature however was a bit up and down, yet, it could have been due to the weather (hot at night, cooler in the morning). I did not get to experience much because nothing was available, not even room service or the restaurant. However, a list of local places was available on the app. The weather was horrible, so I didnt venture out. In the morning I went to look for coffee, yet, none. No coffee pot, only the system. That was disappointing to say the least. So I just checked out and went to brunch elsewhere. The stay would have been pleasant had I been told upfront that nothing would be available. I even called ahead to check and was told that there were limited hours, yet, upon check-in, I found out differently. I cannot rate the service, amenities or dining for that matter. I just wish this was a better stay. Not certain if Id return yet.
The front desk associate by the name of Nothern was the only great thing about the hotel. He was very helpful and knowledgeable with information about the area. Mt room was not clean. There was a dried white liquid substance on my headboard and nightstand. The pool and hot tub area had towels and trash everywhere including inside the water. The elevator had empty cups in them and a sticky substance on the floor of another one. The breakfast was not worth the money. Eat elsewhere.
I stayed at the hotel on Sunday night and I have to say I was pretty disappointed. I envisioned a boutique hotel being special, comfortable and clean and this hotel is none of those. It’s the same price as Icon and we loved it there but wanted to give this hotel a try. I really regret it. The place is pretty dirty. There were two large bags of trash that were next to our door our entire stay. There always seemed to be trash in the elevators and there was random trash in the common areas on our floor. Unfortunately I think the pictures of the rooftop pool greatly oversell it as the concrete was dirty and the place was overall unappealing. The bed linens feels like they are years old and need to be replaced. If I had spent about 30-50% less, I think it would have been fine but the hotel did not meet my expectations and not only can I not recommend it but will leave this review to warn others.
Friendly and professional valet and front desk staff. Beautifully decorated and renovated lobby in elevator area. Gorgeous rooms kept very clean with no obvious scuff marks on furniture or anything like that. Beautiful oval garden tub that was very comfortable and fun for my kids.
Our family traveled from San Antonio to Houston to attend a Houston Astros game. The Magnolia Hotel Houston was perfect for our stay. 4-5 blocks from Minute Maid made a great night for a short walk to and from the game. We felt safe with Covid-19 protocol in place and being practiced by all hotel staff and nearly all guests. We will certainly stay here and again and recommend to people especially out of town guests who are looking for a great hotel for downtown.
The A/C on the top floor was broken I guess because it was 90 degrees on the top floor. When we walked outside to see the pool, it must have not been treated because it was growing algae on the tile and water was slimy green. The hotel is beautiful and room were perfect.
When we arrived it was about to rain. We were well attended to by the valet and they were always very prompt. Upon check-in, we were well greeted my Northon Holiday III. He was very accommodating and made us feel welcome. Later we needed a AA battery and I was prepared to go find a store but Northon secured a battery for me. The significance is that it was raining and he spared me getting wet. Thanks Northon!
This was a wonderful trip for me to visit friends I didn’t even feel like I was back in Houston. My stay at this hotel was wonderful no complaints from me at all. I would have preferred to have a microwave in the room and the pool to be a little bigger and nicer but nonetheless my stay was wonderful.
I hardly ever leave reviews but outside of the common areas, which are lovely, the rooms need a real update. Compared to other Marriott’s, including Courtyards and Residence Inns, the hotel had the smallest, most out of date TVs I’ve ever seen in a hotel. There were also so cleanliness issues that I couldn’t overlook, as well as a 40 minute wait at the valet. Will not be staying at this property again.
I have stayed here before because of its proximity to Minute Maid Park. When we checked in we and many other guests were told that our rooms were not available and so we were unable to freshen up before heading to the Astros game. Halfway through the game we were informed our room was ready. The front desk staff were very polite, I am guessing the hotel is suffering from the labor shortage the way many businesses are so no sense being sore at them. I will come back here again.
The valet took an unreasonable amount of time to get our car out. We were there for a wedding and the shuttle bus did not show up. We tried to get our car out and it took so long, we just got an Uber. The elevators took an unreasonable amount of time. There was no lunch offered at the hotel. We didn’t want to leave the hotel because of weather and we were watching our granddaughter. That was a huge inconvenience.
When I first arrive to the hotel, the night was decent. The sheets didnt seem like they werent clean thoroughly or enough wash cloths. The next day, we left the room and came back for the night and couldnt get in. The hotel did not put the correct dates for our key. I went back to the desk to get this corrected. Went back to the door and still couldnt get it open because he activated it for the wrong room. When I told the man at the desk, he stated is someone Im there. I stated no its just two of us and our stuff is in there. A lady jumps in and ask what my last name was. Why does that matter if I already handed the gentleman my ID. After this was correct. I know mistakes happen but they never apologized for the inconvenience. I wont be returning here.
To be honest I had never stayed somewhere thats as nice as this place. Was a very good experience. The view from the room alone was worth the cost. We arrived quite a bit later than we had expected so I wasnt able to enjoy the rooftop pool nor the breath taking view that it most likely showcases. Kind of bummed about it. If you have never been in the heart of Downtown Houston at night I strongly suggest you experience its beauty. Some might actually find me strange for thinking something like that is beautiful, but it truly is awesome. Ive gone ahead and attached some pictures so at least you get to see what I did.
My husband and I have stayed at this location multiple times for a downtown weekend getaway. Every time we stay, it is just as perfect as the first time when we came across this hotel. We love the history at this hotel, boutique finishes, city views and the rooftop pool and whirlpool.
Loved my Stay at Magnolia Hotel. The hotel was decorated in n a Texas industrial style. The room was roomy and very clean. The bathtub was a big soaker tub. The rooftop pool was small but was a nice place to hangout. All of the staff was very friendly and helpful. I will definitely stay here again. Great hotel for the price point.
AMAZING Customer Service!! We had a stay booked during Winter Storm Uri which was absolutely devastating to Houston (and much of Texas). We, unfortunately, had to cancel at the last minute due to the storm and the Magnolia was great about taking care of us! We cannot wait to rebook and come experience this amazing property!
The staff was wonderful. The valet was exceptional. The hotel was very quiet at night which made for a peaceful night rest. The bed was heavenly. I stayed on the 15th floor and the view was magnificent. I will definitely be recommending to my friends and family. I plan to return.
For the price I feel that the amenities could have been better. I used the soap and shampoo that was provided in the shower and at 1 point some really nasty looking stuff came out. There was no hand soap on the sinks. They also do not service the rooms due to covid theres no active Room service at this time. The hotel did provide a full size crib for my baby which was nice. But in all honesty I would have rather stayed at a Home 2 suites for a lot less $$$
Hotel was nice, rooftop area wasnt the best, staff was nice. Maybe it was just our room, but everytime someone above us flushed the toilet, it shook our entire wall our bed was on, and woke us up. We had the ac set on 70, and it never got colder then 78, even during the night. No fridge in our room once arrived but staff brought us one. Was suppose to have complimentary bottled water, but didnt have any in the room, which may seem like a small detail, however,, at 3am, the last thing you want to find out is there isnt any. We paid extra for a city view, and I guess they gave us a city view, which any building would have a city view when your downtown, however, they only put us on the 7th floor, which the hotel is 23 floors, so our view was absolutely disappointing. So dont pay the extra money for a city view. They charged $30 for valet that was never disclosed which I was okay with paying, however, I found it pretty sneaky of them to not disclose that. Over all, it was subpar experience, and we will probably choose a different hotel next time.
Everyone was nice and friendly, great service and clean rooms. In times of COVID, I understand stopping food service but would like some sort of food options available in the hotel. Either vending machines or snacks for purchase at the lobby when the places nearby are closed, specifically on Sunday nights.
I come to Houston a lot and frequently stay downtown. I love to stay at the JW but this time I thought I would mix it up. The Magnolia fell flat - it seems like they did a cheap renovation of the rooms and they seemed dark and not up to the Marriott quality. Also my room was not cleaned well prior to my stay (bits of styrofoam everywhere , a stained towel) which was not comforting in current times. I won’t stay here again. Also the gym is outdated and the pool is like a baby wading pool- not very functional for adults.
Total flop! So disappointed!! Took the day off work ( which is so hard to do to in my profession ) , made arrangements for the kids to stay with relatives, and all for nothing ! Everything I booked the hotel for was closed. No room service. No restaurant. No bar. No hot tub. No billiards. No nothing. I spent so much time and energy planing this staycation for a special surprise for my hubby. Good thing I checked in early to discover the disappointment before his arrival. One random guy in guest service when I popped in to ask about the billiards room was very cordial and apologetic , but the main person who checked me in and out was very trite , condescending, unpleasant, and not someone whom I’d like to encounter again . Male, older, short white hair, on shift when I checked in Friday 2/12 at about 11:30am. Not someone who should be in a service type position that is to make people feel welcomed. He very promptly checked me out with no care about the conversation I was trying to have with him, no care in the word about my disappointment, no apology , and just wanted to get rid of me. I would not recommend this place to anyone
We stayed at Magnolia in Houston while visiting to attend baseball games. The location is optimal, being only 4 blocks from the stadium, with a beautiful church across the street and a park nearby. We checked in on a Friday and stayed until Sunday. Our room was not particularly clean when we arrived, and was not cleaned once, despite repeated requests for clean towels and to have the garbage emptied. We were told they couldn’t do anything about the linens because it was a weekend, and that they would have the room cleaned while we were at the game Friday night. That never happened. We went on a tour Saturday just so they could clean the room while we were out. That didn’t happen either. Finally Saturday at almost 11:00pm, somebody came in the room and dropped a pile of clean towels, but left the pile of dirty towels on the floor in the front of the bathroom door. That was the extent of our housekeeping. The outlets didn’t work on the 3 walls in the room, nor on the nightstand. The elevators took forever, but it was a busy weekend so it’s understandable. The rooftop pool/hot tub are a nice idea, but the entire floor patio was incredibly dirty with empty glasses, stagnant water & mosquitoes, & cigarette butts. Also, be prepared to get wet even if you’re just up there for the view because the walkway is so narrow that the kids jumping in the pool soaked everyone standing around. The front desk staff all were super nice & wanted to help with the housekeeping situation but did the best they could with what they had. The cafe downstairs was a nice amenity but give yourself plenty of time for food because their resources were vastly limited. On Sundays, there is virtually NOTHING open in the nearby vicinity so be prepared to get anything you may need beforehand. Overall, the stay was accommodating as far as a convenient location and a place to sleep but the price certainly was not worth it for the lack of even having a clean room, especially during a pandemic. Our friends stayed at a hotel in the same vicinity that was far nicer for $40 less per night than we paid. Lesson learned…
Wow, just wow! From our first walkthrough of Magnolia Hotel Houston, the customer service was excellent. All staff members were warm, welcoming and inviting. We knew this was the perfect location for our wedding. Fast forward a few months and the global pandemic hit. We really struggled with the idea of a massive downsize, but Magnolia Hotel was on the exact same page as us. The staff was truly outstanding for their accommodations and support. We had a significant downsize from our original wedding plan, but Andy and his team were phenomenal. The food was AMAZING. Our guests could not believe that the food was from Magnolia Hotel. Everyone thought we catered from a Middle Eastern restaurant, but Chef Antonio outdid himself. The Mediterranean buffet was absolutely delicious! So many of our guests went for seconds, and a few of them asked to take food home with them!If you are planning an event, big or small, I highly recommend holding your event at Magnolia Hotel! You will not be disappointed!
Overall nice experience, but hotel gym had no AC or airflow and was super hot and stuffy. Pool is WAY smaller than the photos make it look online. Floor in my room was stick + moist near closet. Bar was over priced... IMO a bit over priced for what you get but not bad.
We hosted our wedding hotel block here and Andy was super helpful with helping us book everything and keeping us in the know for the whole weekend. The hotel was super accommodating and was a fantastic venue for our guests. We did have a slight billing hiccup, but it was cleared up easily and quickly. I would not hesitate to book with Magnolia in the future.
Overall the convenience of the hotel was very nice. Being able to walk to Minute Maid Park for the Astro’s game was awesome.Staff was hit/ miss upon arrival - some were friendly, some were just okay. The hotel looks very nice online and photos are a little bit deceiving. The room was much smaller , bed was not comfy at all compared to most Marriott hotels. The pool was dirty but the view was beautiful , again doesn’t look like photos online.Had a hard time ordering food to go from the restaurant. Was so exhausted and wanted to order pick up but couldn’t find the menu online that was current- called and asked receptionist to email it to me but she never did and then advised it would be easier to just go there and order in person, which I didn’t want to do.Don’t understand how masks aren’t required but can’t provide room service due to ‘Covid’Hotel was very hot, it seems that they wanted to reserve electricity by having the lobby, hallways and fitness center hot as heck. It felt like I was working out in a heated fitness room.Another thing, don’t expect free hotel parking or even housekeeping. Ridiculous that this isn’t provided for the cost of the hotel. You’re literally paying to stay the night in a room that’s not comfortable. There are much better options in Downtown Houston- please advise
Ended up checking in late due to travel delays, my room type requested was given up and I was told if I didnt like it I could look for another place to stay I felt unwelcomed. I had tried to later explain that to hotel management and was told that happens and there is nothing they could do. I stayed at this hotel because it was affiliated with marriot and that is where I always stay. I would not stay at this hotel again purely based on my interactions with the staff.
Magnolia is a great choice for a downtown Houston hotel. The prices were very reasonable and the staff friendly. The room was beginning to show some signs of age, peeling paint and the bathtub had cracks.Overall a great stay. A little more attention to cleaning detail and its a five star experience.
The Hotel was very nice but not at all what I expected of a “Boutique Hotel Experience” and I believe it was due to Covid bc many of the amenities were discontinued. However, I believe hotels shouldn’t charge their regular rates being that the amenities that usually come with those rates are on a stand still. Nonetheless we definitely enjoyed ourselves and the valet team was very professional and always on top of their job. Had a few off experiences with the front desk agents but having the valet team pick up the slack especially during the weather and unexpected winter storm really saved this review!
We had reserved multiple rooms for a family wedding nearby and the hotel was very well appointed and recently renovated. This was a busy weekend for the hotel and Houston with the Houston Marathon that weekend. We had a delay in getting our second room but the Manager who greeted us at the front desk was beyond excellent. Hands down he was one of the absolute best hotel managers ive ever dealt with and Ive traveled all over the world for the last 30+ years for business and pleasure. His goal was to make sure we had a great experience from start to finish. He really went the extra mile. We were delayed in getting into one of our rooms and he actually moved the second room to the same floor as the first room, and then gave us a voucher so we could have an early dinner while waiting for the second room. Northen then brought us the card keys to the second room and found us in the restaurant. What customer service! the hotel was extremely busy with the Houston Marathon and several wedding groups staying at the hotel but he kept a wonderful attitude the whole weekend. He literally made our stay extra wonderful with his caring attitude toward us.The rest of the staff was great too. From the servers in the restaurant to the people cleaning up at the end of the evening in the public areas to the housekeeping staff, everyone was very nice and helpful.
So this weekends visit to the Magnolia was ok. The hotel was beautiful, bed comfy.. However I was most excited about the ROOF TOP POOL!!!! To my avail Eww!! I did not want any part of it. Looks like an old dirty bath tub.. Housekeeping skipped my room, after speaking with the frt desk I was told I would get fresh linens.. Never happened. I had to ask the guy on the floor for towels. Never got the trash emptied or clean sheets. Staff was friendly but service was not worth the money spent. The refrigerator leaked but was replaced day 2 of my stay.
Valet area was very mismanaged. Bed and pillows were very uncomfortable. Could hear drilling or motor noises throughout the night even on higher floor. Could hear neighbors showering. TV signal kept cutting out constantly. Called down to get some first aid brought up or see if it was available - nope. Gentleman was helpful finding me another location though - thank you. Definitely not a four star hotel experience.
After a long drive in from North Dallas, I arrived at a rather busy time. Checking in was easy. Although it was super busy (2 weddings I that I know of and a birthday party), the representatives was extremely calm and attentive. Once I made it to my room, it was to my surprise as well as the other guests, it was already being occupied. Talk about being scared and embarrassed at the same time. So I immediately speed walked to the elevator with all my belongings to go back to the front desk. When I made it to the front I explained the situation and the young lady apologized and upgraded me to another room on the 20th floor. To be honest I really didn’t care I just wanted to be able to put my bags down and use the bathroom. The room was clean and it was nice despite the beginning.
Positive: Valet gave great service . Professional at all times Negative: During check in the the front desk rep was not welcoming are professional . She just gave me my key card did not give me the room number ,did not tell me about the lounge on the 2nd fl.Her attitude gave that she did not feel like being bothered
This hotel is not offering any services including house keeping, any food or bar service. This was explained as a cost saving measure vs covid protocol. Had a large group staying who would have spent significant dollars on all of the above. When I inquired the operations manager called and clearly could care less. Apparently the do open on the weekends which does absolutely nothing for the most loyal business traveler segment. Seems like priorities are skewed in this establishment. Business travelers should avoid at all costs!
We have stayed here several times and typically love it. Our room was 80+ (77 degrees outside) and we had no had soap. All food services and lounges were closed, but we were not informed of this when we booked 2 days earlier. This wasnt our greatest stay, but perhaps they were having an off weekend.
I have zero complaints about the staff, the cleanliness, or the overall ambience. Everything was perfect. My only complain is that some of the “COVID related restrictions” seemed off. The room service for example, given restaurants have mastered how to take necessary precautions. Also there were no toothpaste or toothbrushes in the bathroom which I also didn’t understand since those are thrown away after the guest leaves. It was a bit off but not something that would keep me from coming back.
First off, the valet was super fast, friendly, and helped me greatly.on the way up to my room on the 21st floor, we talked about what makes the 13th floor so superstitious and why some hotels dont even have a 13th floor- very interesting conversation and cool guy. I hate that I didnt catch his name.My king studio room was PERFECT and the additional accommodations were promptly provided to cook on the stovetop. The decor and paintings around the hotel are AMAZING! Andthe rooftop scenic view was breathtaking, albeit the pool and jacuzzi could use a deep cleaning sometime soon.I want to give a BIG thanks to the following people:Thank you, Mr. Holiday- for accommodating my stay furthermore with the most friendliest phone voice Ive ever heard. I jumped with joy.Thank you, Rachel- the Starbucks coffee refills and additional amenities, the local grocer that I will definitely check out in the early morning to cook a brunch. Thank you for the late-night conversation that I enjoyed so much hearing regarding the decor history of The Magnolia (I still want to know why The Magnolia took out the huge fireplace!), speculated origins of the mystery art with no signatures (the hotel apparently has different art pieces on EVERY floor; as a painter myself and lover of other artists acrylic/oil voyages- this hotel is... almost like an art museum, love it!).Rachel also gave me the contact of the person in charge of such marvelous pieces throughout the hotel- great work, Andy!!!Thank you for so much eye candy!Overall, with the phenomenal hospitality, amenities, and great views- I wish I could live here, but Ill have to settle with 2x/month.Best hotel in Houston Downtown. Hands down.
The hotel was extremely clean and the staff was very welcoming. They were friendly and willing to do what it took to make our stay enjoyable. We loved the complimentary transportation that the hotel provided within a 1 mile radius of the hotel. Minute Maid was within walking distance so that was nice since we were there for the game. However, we did take the shuttle! The rooms were clean and not cramped. The valet was quick to get our vehicle and had the car nice and cool upon arrival. One complaint is there was not a luggage cart in the closet to put our suitcase on. I also am not a fan of being charge $36 to park. They choose to charge those on business more than those coming for leisure - so m-th its $36 to park on the weekend its $30. Also, before Marriott took over there was an after game happy hour with free beer and wine which they no longer provide - I had read about it on another review but when i asked about it was told it had been discontinued along with the complimentary breakfast. Watch your bill - both myself and my friend were overcharged!
I vascillated before booking this hotel as I had never seen nor heard of it. I was pleasantly surprised when I arrived. The lobby was welcoming and the staff were very friendly. I stayed in a king suite and was surprised by the space, kitchenette and walk in closet. My husband loved the couch so much he wants to purchase one. The hotel was perfect for us as we had an event downtown and time was of the essence. I thoroughly enjoyed the stay and extended my original stay.
First I want to thank the hospitality employees for helping travelers by showing up for work. That being said, if you are in hospitality and do not like people you need to find a new profession. This Hotel is located near a church that is centuries old and a block from the metro, underground hall and a couple blocks from the convention center and Minute Maid park. Hotel is decent. Aesthetically pleasing lobby, pretty standard rooms.. Pool area was small and quaint but okay for Morning sun, it’s cold by 3pm as the shadows from the skyscrapers loom. No towels outside they are located in the fitness center but we’re constantly out. Once we asked a housekeeper for some because the kids were cold and wet and they were out. She told us she wasn’t allowed to give us towels and we had to ask the front desk. We called the front desk and they confirmed that the housekeepers are not allowed to give towels and that someone will be up with some. It took 20 minutes and they didn’t explain that the towels would be brought to the fitness center- so we waited impatiently by the pool freezing and cold (the hot tub was occupied and full so we just stood there wet and cold). Finally we called again and then we were told by a man with a smug attitude that the towels were in the fitness area. Regular rate rooms do not have a fridge or microwave, and there isn’t a little shoppe in the lobby to buy snacks or beverages so plan to eat out. The restaurants menu is limited and spendy. The front desk staff was kind upon arrival but sent us to the wrong floor. The cafe out front was never open on time so our group had to skip breakfast all 3 mornings. (We had called ahead before booking and asked about breakfast and was told about the coffee shop) Overall, I could’ve stayed here again in the future without the microwave or fridge but the manager was dismissive and smug. He spoke down to our group when explaining we didn’t book a suite with the amenities we were requesting. When I explained that I was told by another shift manager that they could accommodate our wishes, this manager got upset and said “and that’s why we are here now because they started something they can’t fulfill” making us privy to their work drama. Unprofessionalism and lack of accommodation on top of the pool incident. I’ll stay next door at the Hyatt place with no pool and better service next time.

2022-06-27Stayed here last night and I must say customer service was awesome!!! Valet at check in and check out were very courteous and knowledgeable. Northern at the front desk was so welcoming and greeted us like family. The complimentary cookies and milk in the front lobby between 8-10pm really hit the spot too!!! Northern said he would make our stay a good one and he did just that. The only thing after that great night’s sleep in that comfy bed, we did want to leave.😊

2022-06-25After having a rocky start to our trip, by having our car broken into and some belongings stolen within the first 2 hours of being in Houston. The hospitality at this hotel was MAGNIFICENT to say the least. The hotel staff was so accommodating and empathic to our situation and was so genuinely sweet. The Southern Hospitality runs DEEP here. The entire staff is AMAZING!!!The Rooms are just as nice as the staff, although we didn’t have much of a view from our room, there was a beautiful rooftop pool with a view of the city. The fitness center was also good, it was under renovation during the time of our stay, however I was able to get a few great workout in. Would definitely stay at this hotel again, if I ever come back to Houston.

2022-05-20I had an awesome stay here. The location is good. I loved how the hotel lobby and bar was decorated, and the staff was pleasant. Northon H + Kennedy made check in memorable and a breeze for me. The lounge/bar was also staffed with great and friendly people (near closing time) and had great customer service. This was one of the best hotel experiences Ive ever had. Will book again for sure!

2022-07-11Nice hotel but pool a bit small. Also not the hotels fault but these kids kept hitting all 23 buttons on the elevator.

2022-05-17Positive: Very clean and well decorated hotel with great ambience. Negative: I have never seen so many dogs in a hotel. Numerous dogs could be heard barking throughout the day and into the night. I also witnessed two large dogs trying to get at other dogs in the lobby startling everyone within earshot.
