We visited in November 2019. Was our first time visiting and during a Holiday event. We loved the many festive lights & didplays all around the Convention Center. Many food trucks and LIVE music. They also offered with a fee, awesome small boat rides. Def. Recommend this center during the holidays! 😊👌
Went for one of those Saturday night summer shows... not enough food for the family (just 2 food trucks). Please do not buy the beer, budlight has never been worth your hard earned 10$/can.They have guards doing nothing at the door because the damn event is free.Yet again, the city of mcallen never fails to disappoint me.

Difficult to enjoy this broad and slanted adaptation expressedAn Officer and a GentlemanFrom the start this story was difficult to followNot what we imagined at all-however without failure within 5 minutes of curtain opening raceLess than 15 minutes into this adaptation fought walking out, respectfully we remained seated through 1st actThen walked out during intermission
This was our first time for RORRing Entertainment at the convention center with our Racing Entertainment System at the Car Fest. We had a really great time with this venue and we kept the masses happy. You can tell by the smiley faces that somebody was having a great time! Hope to be coming back to McAllen soon.
Went to Tuba Christmas. What a hoot. 635 tubas, Sousa phones, and other brass instruments in the Tuba family. There is something oxymoronic about that many tubas playing Silent Night. Anyway, they were trying to set an official new Guinness Book world record, and the City of McAllen really helped with the convention center. It is a nice facility, easy access, plenty of free parking. And the event was free.
The McAllen Convention Center always delivers. It hosts all sorts of events, and theyre always pulled off without a hitch. From the ComiCons, to the concerts, to the graduations, Ive only wished I could get out of the parking lot a bit faster when its parked. The grounds are pretty and the facilities accommodating. And theres an amazing array of restaurants and shopping spots right across the street.
Comicon is yearly event I participate. I like everything, except that every single year they bring almost same artists. Prices just to walk in the place 35 dlls that is expensive. If you compare it for those people that have minimum wage. And most vendors there are very expensive. There are some exceptions. I understand that everyone wants to make money but fans deserve a more affordable service.
So happy the convention center is back open to the taxpaying public. Please do not contract these companies that prevent the public from even parking on public areas nearby. Last year it was a major nuisance although it appears that private companies were earning lots of money off of our beautiful McAllen Convention Center area. We need to have that Lake available for public viewing 12 months per year
The loud trucks and cars often get annoying, but other than that its a beautiful place.I would recommend some cops to look out for the place that way the road crossing can be more safe since they start speeding all of a sudden and you never know if youre about to get hit or not.
All handicap doors were locked. Had to park at the Northwest parking lot. As the parent of a special needs child who is wheel chair bound with several bags for his care. We had to walk to the main doors on the Soutside of the venue. Even there at the main entrance the handicap accessible doors were locked. I enjoyed the Hunters Expo. Except for the inconvenience of having to struggle with the handicap doors.
I cant speak much on the inside of the place because I hadnt had the opportunity to see any events here. But I love to take evening walks around the pond. My kids love to see the ducks and they recently added paddle boat rentals which is great. The water features are pretty and tranquil. In the evening the pathways are lighted and its beautiful. We love to take a stroll around several times.
I came here to see the dinos and dragons exhibit. It was amazing with animated creatures throughout the facility. My only complaint was that half the dinosaur exhibits didnt name the dinosaurs. My party had to ask me what we were looking at more often than not. Otherwise this was fascinating and fanciful with a lot of up to date information on the dinos displayed both in sizes and breeds. I wish they could have feathered a few of them but Im assuming their creatures were a few years old.
What a wonderful place! So many fantastic events and celebrations held here throughout the year. A great place to enjoy the sights and sounds of both nature and city harmonizing as the sun sets. 🌅Take a stroll on the great sidewalks, sit on the steps by the waterfall feature, or chill on a park bench--- keep track of time or get lost in time. Family friendly and beautifully maintained!
This place is so beautiful at night! I love it. its a great area to just go hang out, walk around, sit by the pond or waterfall area. Just peaceful. Youll see a lot of couples out there, so Im guessing its a romantic place as well. I like how youre able to rent bicycles and just ride around, so thats definitely an added benefit. Every time Im in there I come here. And there is a lonely white duck thats always there, hopefully they bring another one for it.
Beautiful landscaping along with large open spaces both indoors and in surrounding gardens makes this place nice to visit. I saw bridal couples taking pictures near the water and they do a great job with three plants. Parking was close and free. Well lit and felt safe. Nice to have a place like this in the Valley.
I love the convention center however my most recent visit I saw the fountain and pool has green foam and had a foul smell. Besides that this can be a great day to spend with your friends or family. There are many restaurants and stores nearby that it makes it a one stop destination.
Amazing place to go walk around and good location where festivals happen, i also love that this is where they do the ComiCon events. The water fountain is really pretty, but when the water is off the fountain smells. For those who like to play Pokemon, this location has a couple of Pokemon stops. It has a Historical area and is good small comparison of Washington D.C.
What a beautiful area! The team who came together and concoct such beautiful building were definitely thinking about the future. Not only do these structures as serve its purpose but the outdoor setting reminds me of living back in Houston. Bigger is better but Im grateful for what it is. Very innovative. We came for the Price is Right Live and had a helluva time. 😊
An incredible place for concerts, conventions, and general outdoor events. I highly recommend this place to relax by the reflection pool on a lazy Sunday afternoon. Take your dog and kids out and enjoy the well maintained gardens and rare birds that occasionally visit this place.
This is a pretty standard convention center. Big enough to host any size convention. Two large screens allow everyone to see whats happening on the stage no matter how far away theyre seated. The landscaping is nice and well lit. The only drawback is the traffic when leaving. There are very few exits and itll take a while to get out of the parking lot.
Great event center. Ive been there for boat, car & RV shows. Ive also attended concerts & comedy gigs too!. The university that my daughter is planning on attending came from out of town to host a local orientation and dinner for incoming students. Lots of restaurants & hotels nearby.
I came to Frio attraction. Staff are so Delicate and they have No customer service whatsoever. They talk to you like you should know better. Like if we know how everything is running... Furthermore, their water pond outside is FILTHY DIRTY and we saw a Poor turtle swimming in the dirty the pond.. I paid $50 for a Bad Experience... Plus i still paid almost $40 for burgers made out of soy...
Decent place for conventions. Only problems that stood out like a sore thumb is they only have 1 or 2 water fountains which is not cool at all since they are not located inside the areas where conventions are held. They make plenty of money on venues however still want to charge you more to buy food and drinks at robbery prices. They also refuse to allow you to bring your own drinks even if its bottled water. Very greedy. If you got foot problems then you might wanna take pain pills in advance. Floors are really hard and uncomfortable.Bathrooms are decent. Area is big. Perfect for decent sized events.Security takes their jobs a bit too seriously. Seen them harrassing a few people once or twice. The cons really outweigh the pros however it is the only real convention center in the McAllen area so there is no other real options
There are various things I like about this place. A lot of special events happen here. From Graduations, Comic Cons, Cultutal events, concerts and more. A center point to visit if you are new to the area. Take pictures in the waterfalls or a ride a boat. For people who play PokemonGo and Wizards Unite, this is a good place too. Walk around the area. Park in the parking lot, so you wont get ticket.
Came to a training. The rooms are cold, (bring a sweater), the coffee provided is hot, and the personnel was attentive. They adjusted the thermostat for us after lunch. The restrooms are clean and automated. The sodas in the vending machine are $3.00!!! It wasnt crowded as usual, because there werent any large events going on.
I went to walk around the McAllen Convention Center to walk; which was amazing nice. There is so much going around the McAllen Convention Center and I encourage others to go. There are many shopping stores, and restaurants. Embassy Suites is there which I saw from the outside but I have stayed there. The Embassy Suites has an event center and they have really good music. I didnt go in but walked all around and enjoyed every bit and hope to go again soon.
Been here about three times for two ComicCon and Palm Festival. I like the parking accommodation and how it is close and accesible to the main building. Also the site is very well built with various areas that contain a theater, open areas, green areas and everything in between.
The McAllen Convention Center is a great place to host an event. Theres a nice artificial waterfall and reflecting pool that makes this a great destination to walk around the grounds. Inside the facility can be configured to your needs with several ballrooms. Several different events are hosted on a yearly basis and these events just keep getting bigger and bigger. There facility is surrounded by hotels and restaurants making everything a simple walk away.
Very disappointed!! Went there for my daughters dance competition and I guess its all about the money. Its all business! Pay for this and pay for that, buy this and buy that and spend spend spend so that your child can get a 5 dollar dance jacket. The best way people can get to your hard earned money, is through your kids. And they know it!!
Could use more parking when there are concerts at the Convention Center and then simultaneous shows at the McAllen Performing Arts Theatre. I had to park outside of Hobby Lobby once. That experience is sure to affect individuals with mobility issues. This place needs a parking garage, not another hotel.
Our Barbershop chorus, Magic Valley Chorus of Sweet Adelines International, performed as part of the McAllen Wind Ensemble concert honoring Veterans on 12 Nov 2019. The acoustics are amazing, the staff is knowledgeable and accommodating, and the parking lot is ample. The dressing rooms are great!
You can walk around the water. You will probably see kids swimming in it, maybe a father and son trying to fish in it. There is a lot of construction in this specific area right now which is exciting to some. There is a US POWMIA memorial which is often overlooked, but nice to visit. Ive seen everything here from gun shows to job fairs.
More disappointed with their service. Very uncoordinated during graduations. What got me to write this was when my mom just got out of surgery and i asked a lady (who was sitting in a chair) if they could lend her a chair, they just pushed me to ask strangers that were also waiting in their own seats.
Outside Daily:Good place to Walk and Talk after eating at the Resturants nearby.Usually family orientated kids, couples, and Families gather at night to mingle.Inside Events Monthly:For big events , outside are is enclosedBig events likeTaste of McAllen foodCar showsBoatsRVSWedding expos. Etc.Good place for Valley performers. A lot happens inside the venue. From Comicon to Ballet, shopping center and more.

2022-06-12This is a very nice convention center. Attractive outside with plenty of hotels within walking distance, and several restaurants. Inside, AC works well, plenty of light, a number of well-sized breakout rooms. However, restrooms were undersized, creating long waits or very long walks to the opposite end.

2021-10-25A must-visit place while in McAllen. We visited it during the Fiesta de Palmas Festival in 2021. There was plenty of parking outside. There are lots of restaurants just around the area.

2022-04-15Such a beautiful outside sitting with the waterfall lit-up at night. We went to the first outside entertainment 4/9/22. Great time, families enjoying festivies, music was good (Darius from Houston) was the best. Lots of vendors, and the venue was pet friendly. Perfect night 🌙

2022-04-27They had set up for two events this weekend and it seemed a bit messy to me, honestly. I personally feel they couldve done a better job with their placement of things. For example the arcade portion should have had their own room not to be crowded around the chairs and projector. The projector couldve been set up in a separate area so you could hear what was going on and not be distracted by people walking infront of or behind you. The food and drinks probably should have been put in their own area so there werent lines we had to cross through. The booths and products were amazing and the people running them were beyond friendly. Maybe one other thing is when youre on the phone or recording yourself, maybe you watch who you hit or run into. A little girl got knocked over by a rude woman looking for the food line. Perhaps if there was more room there wouldnt be so much running into people and having them pushing past you. Take the enjoyment away a bit.

2022-05-01Only reason they get a 2 was because of the dinosaur and dragons as well as the staff inside the event. Oh and how could I forget the petting zoo and horse ride. Now where too begin. When we arrived they had a long line already which is like okay people are purchasing tickets you know and they just opened. However, where was the line for people that had already purchased the tickets. Like are you for real. We were told there would be a separate line for people that purchased in advance. Apparently there wasnt and then to top it off rhe security there was also trying to figure out things. They were trying to help but they themselves seemed frustrated and irritated on how very unorganized the event was. Especially too enter. Like come on you have parents that get out of work so they are tired then you have kids of all ages and lets not forget the elderly. They did not have any preparation. To top it off their scanners were not working like seriously. So they just let us in. Then there was this lady there that seemed to know what she was doing but she was lost as well. An was more concerned of trying to prove her point that there was only one line that later split into 2 but she was just proving how unorganized this even was. Then once we are inside yeah we are going around trying to enjoy the event. So ofcourse we needed to use the bathroom. Well there was no changing station for babies I had to use the handicap and rhankfully I had my stroller but cheating station there either. Seriously this even could be awesome for any age range with or without disabilities. All they have too do is organize themselves better. Even if they think they wont have a lot of people showing up just have a plan b because you never k ow what can happen.

2022-05-15Zero stars. Went to the Dinos and Dragons event and it was 100 degrees outside. The city of Mcallen shouldve been prepared and had some kind of giant anti UV protection dome over the entire event. I was very uncomfortable the whole time.

2022-05-20Took our 3 yr old to the Dinos and Dragons event. The poor things were pretty run down lol like the heads were all barely on there on some of them.CAUTION: There was a petting zoo which husband and kiddo went into. We brought back FLEAS.

2019-12-22I went to frio. It was great. It could be better as in cost wise and how many times kids get to ride . The lights and decorations were really really nice. We came during a super saver type day. It was on a Thursday. Great saves is u come in large group. Yes they do charge a very high rate and they should let the kids ride unlimited instead of just once. That was discouraging for the kids. But they had fun. Oh ya take a jacket cause its freezing inside frio. The ice rink is great but dangerous at same time. A lil small but hey its the valley. Be prepared to spend some money. Great job on the lighting displays outside the event center many great photo opportunities. Happy Holidays....
